Orb Mellon is the alter ego and roots music moniker of Mike Malone, founder and guitarist of the seminal indie band and Sony / Epic recording artists Dirt Merchants, die met "Baby Blue" in de beste Dave Edmunds / Moon Martin stijl uit de startblokken schiet op zijn album "Moan". 

Een prettige kennismaking met de man uit Connecticut die zo vriendelijk was om ook de voorganger "Love Above" (Aanrader !!)  richting Belgie te sturen.  Influenced by the likes of Son House, Bukka White, Furry Lewis and Charlie Patton ...oftewel 'blues in all its primeval glory' met een (h)eerlijke streep mondharmonica on "Burn" en "I'm Just a Man"  ...., een schitterende country ballad à Rodney Crowell ("I'll Never Go"),  swamprockertjes ("Gonna Find It", "Heart is Blue") en de mood music / bluesy hartekreet "Weight My Heart" (with OB on keys). Songs about the darker sides of lust, love, loss and revenge oftewel een  true blues concept album dat met "The Reaper" en live - topper "Angel" een schitterende portie slide / harmonica voor ons in petto heeft. Uitstekende akoestische delta blues anno 2009 ( Orb Mellon plays an acoustic Mahogany Martin, single - cone National or an old ladder - braced Gibson Cromwell flat - top ) die minimale ondersteuning krijgt van een prima rhythm sectie ( Pete Weiss / bass, Jeff Berlin / drums).

Met de instrumentale  titeltrack "Moan" solliciteert Orb Mellon voor een plaatsje op elk festival dat een boontje heeft voor raw energy of 20 Th century American roots music, particularly whiskey fueled house party delta blues !
